SeaLink K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) ferries

Ferry cruises through the water arriving at Kingfisher Bay Resort

SeaLink K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) ferries are currently operating daily ferry services between River Heads, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Wanggoolba Creek.

  • From Hervey Bay
    From Boat Harbour Drive, turn on to Elizabeth Street at the roundabout near the Urangan Woolworths and follow the road past the airport. Turn left on to River Heads Road (which is signed and may come up in electronic GPS navigation systems as Ariadne Road) follow the road all the way to end to arrive at the ferry loading area. The Ticket Hut will be located on your right hand side.

    From Maryborough

    Follow the Maryborough–Hervey Bay Road and, at the large roundabout, take the Boral Road exit. Continue along until you see signage for River Heads Road (on your right hand side). This road (which sometimes appears as Ariadne in GPS navigation systems) will take you all the way through to the ferry departure point.

    Tide times can be downloaded from Bureau of Meteorology website (use Urangan for western side tide times and Waddy Point for the eastern beach times.

  • Ticket collection is at the Ticket Hut adjacent to the ferry ramp. All vehicles must check in before boarding ferry. Please assemble your vehicle in the marked area and be ready to board the ferry approx. 20 minutes prior to the vehicle departure times.

    This office operates 7 days a week to provide services to ferry, tours and resort guests.
    The Ticket Hut (Located at the River Heads Boat Ramp) will be open daily from 06:30 - 13:00 and 13:45 - 16:00, closed on Christmas Day.

    River Heads Mainland Reception will open from 08:00 - 16:00.

    All transfers time are subject to changes without advanced notice, therefore we encourage all travellers to reconfirm their ferry time prior to departure.

  • The Kingfisher Bay ferry has multiple return services which depart River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) daily and land at Kingfisher Bay Resort on the western side of Fraser Island. The resort grounds are accessible by 2WD, however the Great Sandy National Park and villages including K'gari Beach Resort (formerly Eurong Beach Resort) are ONLY accessible by 4WD vehicles. If you are planning on bringing a family sedan across (for resort use only), please make sure you check the clearance with our Sales and Reservations Team. Vehicle access permits are required for all vehicles entering the Great Sandy National Park.

    Top tip: When planning your journey, please allow extra time for roadworks.

  • Please note: The River Heads to Wanggoolba Creek ferry service is scheduled daily, however is subject to change. Please confirm your booking prior to departure.

    Please check ferry times carefully and allow enough travelling time across-island.

    The Fraser Venture departs River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) daily, landing at Wanggoolba Creek on the western side of K'gari. Crossing time takes approximately 30 minutes. Wanggoolba Creek is the entry point to K'gari and is directly opposite K'gari Beach Resort (formerly Eurong Beach Resort) on the east coast of the island. It takes approximately 45 minutes (depending on the sand tracks) to access either Kingfisher Bay Resort or K'gari Beach Resort and the eastern beach attractions. Please note: this is strictly 4WD territory and it's always advisable to check the QPWS K'gari condition report prior to commencing your journey. Vehicle access permits are required for all vehicles entering the Great Sandy National Park.
